Ryan Kavanaugh was founder and CEO of Relativity Media, which deals with various areas of culture, including film and television financing; development and distribution; music publishing; sports management and new technology. Relativity produced, provided or organized financing for over 200 motion pictures raising more than $17 billion in worldwide box office sales and winning 60 nominations for Oscar. Kavanaugh was named Showman of the Year by Variety in 2011.

Kavanaugh acted as the board president for The Art of Elysium, an organisation that allows artists to devote their energy and resources to children who are dealing with serious health conditions. Originally called Jack Konitz, the son of survivors of the Holocaust, as an adult he modified his surname to Kavanaugh and Ryan and his siblings were born with this surname. His ability at structuring acquisitions has also been shown at his role on a big contract with Marvel Comics as well as other successful slate transactions.
